About ProtecToons
This groundbreaking cartoon series informs and engages elementary-aged children so they understand how to act quickly and appropriately during an act of violence. Developed in cooperation with first responders, educators, and curriculum directors, ProtecToons will start the Cartoonversation™ to help keep kids safe.
ProtecToons episodes are already aligned with grade-specific state teaching standards – making it easier for teachers to use in the classroom. Their innovative use of the Cartoonversation™ Card opens the door for kids to talk and share – and to develop the awareness and understanding they need to be healthier, happier, and safer.

Episode 1: Never Again
Good decisions in bad situations. No matter how hard we work to make sure everything is done right and everyone is safe, it doesn’t always play out that way. When violence arrives, we have to be prepared for the best possible outcome. That means practicing safety measures over and over, and sometimes it means studying history to learn what went right and what could have been better.
That’s what the students, families, and Sea Cadets in Port Townsend are doing in Episode One. They don’t want tragedy to strike their community, because one year ago today it did. Join our Sea Cadets as they work to make sure everyone is at their best by preparing for the worst.

“Not every child is going to be in the safest place when an active shooter crisis occurs. ProtecToons and their innovative Cartoonversation Cards open the discussion with youth and give law enforcement, teachers, and first responders what they really want: children reacting quickly and correctly in a moment of crisis.” -- Detective Steven Irvine, Muskegon Police Department |
“The ProtecToons series provides a vital connection between children and adults by using a proven medium, coupled with Cartoonversation Cards, to learn about active shooter situations. I am confident retention levels will be increased, as will the likelihood of children reacting appropriately in times of crisis.” -- Deputy Scott Foster, Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department |
